The residence prioritises renewable energy and recycling: solar panels have been installed on the roofs, and recycling stations are provided for sorting cardboard, glass and other materials. Residents are also encouraged to make environmentally friendly choices.

A large communal house forms part of Højgårdkollegiet. It has a party room for approximately 30 people, toilets, a kitchen, table football and a shared laundry room. The residents' association occasionally organises parties, and residents may also book the communal house free of charge for their own events using their laundry card.
