These functional youth homes are located in Haderslev's northern district, where the setting offers views of woodland and open fields. Built in 2001 and 2005, Højgårdkollegiet comprises seven blocks with a total of 57 homes. The development combines closely grouped, welcoming single-storey houses with a two-storey building; their light-coloured façades give the buildings a modern appearance. Shared outdoor spaces include fruit trees, low hedges and flowers in many colours, as well as bench-and-table sets where residents can sit quietly with their study books. A farm borders the residence, and the farmer is willing to rent green land to residents who have a horse. Woodland with walking and cycling trails is also just a short distance away.

Environmental responsibility, renewable energy and recycling are priorities at Højgårdkollegiet. Solar panels have been installed on the roofs, and recycling stations are provided for sorting cardboard, glass and other materials; residents are also encouraged to make environmentally conscious choices. The residence has a large shared building with a party room for approximately 30 people, toilets, a kitchen, table football and a shared laundry room. The residents' association occasionally organises parties, and residents may also book the shared building for their own events. Its rental is free, and booking is made using the laundry card.
