Omtanken is composed of six buildings that together form a ring around a communal courtyard. Each building contains 12 homes, with the exception of building B, where part of the floor area has been allocated to a large common room for the residents. The apartments themselves range from 2- to 4-room homes and are designed to suit people at different stages of life.

Community on your own terms is supported through the shared facilities housed in building B: a multipurpose room, a kitchen/dining area (kitchen/alrum) and a communal laundry. The multipurpose room is laid out flexibly and can be used for play, movement, film screenings, creative activities, games and larger gatherings. The shared kitchen/alrum accommodates everything from birthdays and communal dinners to café-style use, homework and meetings. These common spaces make it possible to meet across households and take part in the community when it fits into everyday life.

Every apartment includes its own balcony or terrace so residents can spend time outdoors while still being part of the neighbourhood's life and atmosphere. The homes are constructed with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials and a healthy indoor climate, so the care extends beyond communal life to the individual dwellings and the settings where daily life is lived.
