Området is a new neighbourhood carved out between the old railway lines and the emerging green corridors on Amager Strand. Rooted in the open landscapes of Østamager and the industrial heritage of the Amagerbanen, the development repurposes the former freight tracks into a contemporary residential setting. Where trains once ran across a raw, flat terrain, Området now frames everyday life with a clear architectural logic that still respects wide natural horizons. The name itself signals connections - linking city and nature, past and present, people and place - and the site benefits from direct access to Amager Fælled, a short walk to Amager Strandpark and a nearby metro station that places you 10 minutes from Indre By and 5 minutes from the airport. Amager Strandpark is only minutes away on foot, offering long promenades, sandy beaches and year-round activities, while the neighbourhood is well supplied with shops, institutions and leisure options, surrounded by green outdoor spaces that make it suitable for residents of all ages.
The housing mix in Området covers compact and family-sized solutions. There are 92 modern minimal apartments, each a one-room unit with its own private terrace or balcony, designed for simple, convenient living without sacrificing quality: well-considered layouts, good daylight and contemporary materials. Those units are complemented by shared facilities intended to strengthen community life - a communal swap room for giving old items new purpose, a common room with a kitchen for social events and collective laundry facilities that double as places for conversation while machines run. These minimal homes are aimed particularly at students, young people and others seeking an active urban lifestyle with both privacy and an immediate social environment. In the project's point block, Punkthuset, 23 bright two-room apartments are arranged with a focus on functionality and modern living: each has a private terrace or balcony, an open living area, a separate bedroom and large windows that bring in daylight and connect the interior to its surroundings. The block's location fosters a calm atmosphere that balances private living with communal qualities, suiting couples, singles and seniors who want space and quality within a lively urban setting. The main residential courtyard building, Boligkarréen, contains 92 apartments ranging from 2 to 5 rooms, all light-filled and finished in contemporary materials. Every apartment has a private balcony or terrace, and some feature private roof terraces; thanks to the proximity to Øresund, several residences enjoy a fine sea view. The shape of the block creates a sheltered courtyard that works as a green, social gathering point in the heart of the area.
At street level the courtyard block includes commercial units meant to bring activity to the ground plane, suitable for small cafés, speciality shops, co-working or similar uses; these premises have large shop windows and direct street access to ensure visibility and draw both residents and visitors. Around Området a set of shared green outdoor spaces is laid out for play, rest and socialising, with playgrounds for children, seating areas, planting and picnic spots designed to encourage informal encounters across the different housing types. Parking is provided in an underground parking garage, giving convenient, secure access to vehicles as well as spaces for bicycles and the possibility to charge electric cars. *Please note that the images are not necessarily taken of/from the specific residence, and views may therefore vary.
