The apartment is a 5 min walk to the King’s Garden, where the locals spend the whole summer gazing into the sky whilst enjoying the sun with friends on the grass. The King’s garden is also where the Rosenborg renaissance castle is located, where you can experience 400 years of royal history. It is home to the crown jewels and was originally built as a country summerhouse in 1606 and is an example of Christian IV’s many architectural projects. The name Pilestræde meaning willow strait, is believed to derive from the willow and gardens that lay in the area, specifically the cemetary at St. Nicholas church where willow trees grew, which was used as a tool to fence the gardens. At the end of the present street, lay a breeding farm in the 16th century where the city bull stood stabled. Pilestræde was lucky to not be affected by the city fire in 1795 and the city bombing in 1807. The street is one of the oldest in the medieval town.
