Applicants for the one-room youth apartments must be currently enrolled in an educational program to qualify. The period of residence is limited to three months following the completion date of the education.

Birkelunden, section 1, located at numbers 21-57, was constructed in 1989 and features single-story terraced houses. Among these homes, four are designated as youth housing. Each unit benefits from a small garden as well as an outhouse. Carports are available for eight of the residences and are included in the rent for those particular homes. The neighborhood is quiet and centrally situated in Ejby, with convenient access to shopping facilities nearby.

The community participates actively in the management of the area, as all matters regarding operations and rent are determined by the residents in an annual meeting open to all tenants of the section. Tenants have the freedom to personalize their homes as they wish. Moreover, if improvements are made to the apartment, compensation of up to 100,000 DKK can be granted upon moving out. Maintenance of the complex is thorough, with a caretaker visiting weekly to tend to the green spaces and address minor repairs within the units. Additionally, an inspector is employed to oversee the ongoing upkeep of the properties.
